Midland, Michigan Circle – International Order of the King’s Daughters and Sons

“For over 120 years the Order has lent a hand throughout the world…we have a justly deserved reputation for genuine caring.”                            Frances Sellew, Past President IOKDS

Midland’s In His Service Circle, organized in 1913, is a part of the International Order of the King’s Daughters and Sons (IOKDS). Current service projects>>>

Founded January 13, 1886, the IOKDS is an international and interdenominational organization of Christian men and women dedicated to service in Christ’s name. The objects of the Order are “the development of spiritual life and the stimulation of Christian activities.”

Its threefold program is:

  • Religious
  • Educational
  • Philanthropic, with the purpose of training its members for Christian Service.

The aim of the Order is taken from Mark 10:45, “Not to be ministered unto, but to minister.” The badge of the Order is a silver Maltese cross inscribed with the letters IHN representing the watchword of the Order, In His Name.

Since to look upward is to trust, to look forward is to hope, to look outward is to feel the pain of others, and to lend a hand is only love in action, the members have as their motto:

Look up and not down;
Look forward and not back;
Look out and not in:
Lend a hand.
